Waynesville North Carolina

Waynesville is an area in North Carolina on the eastern edge of the Smoke Mountain National Park, about 30 miles southwest of Ashville and 70 miles east of Knoxville.  We are spent two weeks hiking in this area in mid August.  Known for its rich history, vibrant arts scene, and abundance of outdoor activities, this town is a must-visit destination for travelers looking to immerse themselves in nature and local culture.

As hiking enthusiast, we were thrilled to discover the many hiking trails in and around Waynesville. Here are our top five picks:

  2. Cataloochee Divide Trail – a moderate hike that takes you through beautiful forests and valleys.
  3. Graveyard Fields Trail – an easy hike that leads to a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole.
  4. Deep Creak loop Trail – In Smokey Mountain National Park.  The loop trail travels along a scenic creek with several cascades and a waterfall.
  5. Gabes Mountain Trail to Hen Wallow Falls – a 4.5 out- and-back trail near Crosby TN  The waterfall is about 90 feet high.
  6. Mouse Creek falls via Big Creek Trail – A beautiful trail with several gorgeous falls.
